Subarcsecond Imaging of the High-mass Star Forming Region Onsala

چکیده
We report subarcsecond images of the high-mass star forming region Onsala 1 (ON 1) made with the Submillimeter Array (SMA) at 0.85 mm and the Very Large Array at 1.3 cm and 3.6 cm. ON 1 is one of the smallest ultracompact H II regions in the Galaxy and exhibits various star formation signposts. With our VLA and SMA observations, two new cm-wave sources and five sub-mm dust sources, respectively, within a field of ∼5 (corresponding to a linear scale of 0.05 pc) are identified, indicating the multiplicity at the center of the ON 1 region. The dust and gas masses of these sub-mm sources are in the range of 0.8 to 6.4 M⊙. Among the five sub-mm dust sources, SMA2, with a dust and gas mass of 2.6 M⊙, demonstrates several star formation signatures, and hence likely represents an intermediate-mass (or even high-mass) star forming core. Due to the low star formation efficiency of ∼10%, we suggest that star formation in the ON 1 region will continue. For example, SMA4 and SMA5 are not associated with any star formation signatures and likely mark star formation cores at very early evolutionary stages. The structure of Onsala 1 star forming region
We present new high-sensitivity high-resolution mm-wave observations of the Onsala 1 ultra-compact HII region that bring to light the internal structure of this massive star forming cloud. The 1.2mm continuum map obtained with the IRAM 30-m radiotelescope (∼11′′ resolution) shows a centrally peaked condensation of 1′ size (∼0.5 pc at the assumed distance of 1.8 kpc) which has been further inves...

In this letter we present ground-based subarcsecond mid-infrared imaging and spectroscopy of young super star clusters in the overlap region of the merging galaxies NGC4038/4039 (the Antennae) obtained with the VLT Imager and Spectrometer for mid-Infrared (VISIR). With its unprecedented spatial resolution VISIR begins to resolve the H ii/PDR complexes around the star-forming regions for the fir...
متن کاملWatching the Birth of Super Star Clusters
Subarcsecond infrared and radio observations yield important information about the formation of super star clusters from their surrounding gas. We discuss the general properties of ionized and molecular gas near young, forming SSCs, as illustrated by the prototypical young, forming super star cluster nebula in the dwarf galaxy NGC 5253. This super star cluster appears to have a gravitationally ...
متن کاملSUBMILLIMETER GALAXIES AT z 2: EVIDENCE FOR MAJOR MERGERS AND CONSTRAINTS ON LIFETIMES, IMF, AND CO-H2 CONVERSION FACTOR
We report subarcsecond resolution IRAMPdBI millimeter CO interferometry of four z 2 submillimeter galaxies (SMGs), and sensitive CO(3Y2) flux limits toward three z 2 UV/optically selected star-forming galaxies. The new data reveal for the first time spatially resolved CO gas kinematics in the observed SMGs. Two of the SMGs show double or multiple morphologies, with complex, disturbed gas motion...
متن کاملSMA multi - line observations of the massive star - forming region IRAS 18089 - 1732
Submillimeter Array (SMA) observations of the high-mass star-forming region IRAS 18089-1732 in the 1 mm and 850 µm band with 1 GHz bandwidth reveal a wealth of information. We present the observations of 34 lines from 16 different molecular species. Most molecular line maps show significant contributions from the outflow, and only few molecules are confined to the inner core. We present and dis...
